You can’t go too far without seeing the plants. Our guide explained that since it is so widespread, it is collected and fed to pigs. This may explain the amounts of fat which you find when you have pork there. They must be pretty relaxed after eating that.
I am not really sure how much this is contributing to the Gross National Happiness. All I can say is, Bhutan gives a whole new meaning to ‘high up in the mountains’!
