One thing I learned in the Desh is to never underestimate anybody's sense of humor. This place can be depressing, but you can still find plenty of reasons to laugh. Now, I can't consider myself an arbiter of Bangladeshi humor, but I am willing to bet 90% of the general population would find it hilarious that someone thought it would be a good idea to transform a crashed airplane into a sit down restaurant.
In October 2004, the flight BG601 landed far down the 9,000 feet (2,700 m) runway at Osmani International Airport in heavy rain and overshot the end by 150 feet (46 m), coming to rest in a ditch 15 feet (4.6 m) deep. The Fokker F28's forward fuselage was heavily damaged and the plane was written off. All 79 passengers (including a number of VIPs from the Bangladesh government) escaped with minor injuries except the captain, who broke an arm. The body of the damaged plane was sold by Biman to Western Grill Air Corporation, which converted it into a restaurant.
Now, unfortunately the restaurant closed its doors, or should I say stairs before we came to Dhaka, so I can't take credit for the pictures. The story however is still worth mentioning.
