Outta here

There is one absolutely magic thing about Dhaka. It makes every other single place feel absolutely fabulous. I’m sure there are worse places to live in the world – Somalia would easily come to mind – but most places are a step up.
Is not like we are going Paris or London, we’re going places still considered under-developed – our first vacation was to Sri Lanka and now Thailand. But all these countries are a major upgrade from Bangladesh. It feels like you rediscover high speed internet after using dial up for a while.

We end up marveling during the entire trip at how developed these still-developing countries are. And of course, wondering what exactly is it that still keeps Bangladesh so stuck in the past.

We arrived to Bangkok, Thailand very late in the night and were all like little kids walking around amazed by how modern, clean, orderly, how so un-Dhaka like the city looked.

When I arrived at post and even before, everybody kept telling me we needed  to leave the Desh every two or three months. Ya, right, typical American exaggerations,  I thought. But by now we got smarter. Living in Dhaka takes its toll and leaving even for a short while is an amazing relief.
